listening to the tapes - partial transcript -

1047 - call dispatched - 1 tone set transmitted - E1 + E2 + Cr4 sent -
(A3 at minor EMS call - Cr4 is X5 Deputy Norton) - automatic alarm

1048 - receiving a call for fire in the bld - (in the background
dispatcher twice asks caller - where do you see the fire?) -
dispatcher sounds 8 second tone (all call)

1051 - Car 4 at scene - "go to box alarm" - flames from roof of 2.5 story wood

1053 - E2 and E1/E4 at scene

1056 - A3 clear of EMS call - will get Ladder

1101 - IC requests 2nd alarm - (I did not hear dispatcher acknowledge this)

1109 - Easthampton E1 at hydrant

1111 - tone for 2nd alarm transmitted - recall of all personnel - call
in via phone

1114 - Amherst E1 at scene

1117 - Southampton A1 at scene - at medic level - get sent to SOB call in town

-----------------

2nd alarm got - Holyoke Eng & South Deerfield Ldr to fire - Hatfield
Eng to HQ - Amherst Ldr to staging

There was no traffic on 154.37 apparently (per Hamsphire County feed)
- so that was not used for dispatch to dispatch comms - I guess all
comms from Northampton dispatchers to other Fds was via telephone

Alarm progression was - first alarm - all call - 2nd alarm - (3rd
alarm later for manpower)

Northampton is a fully paid FD with 2 stations - they got nobody on
the callbacks initially apparently - on the 2nd alarm I think they had
4 FFs call in and report to duty

radio comms were very cool calm and collected - no sirens heard at
first - IC put both engines into position after laying feeders - they
went defensive and hit the fire with deck guns - everyone was given
approach directions and hydrants to hit and corners to take

but there was no backup to be had - took 22 minutes for the 3rd engine
to arrive - took 20 minutes for first ladder to arrive (maybe because
Ldr crew was at a BS EMS call - no transport - private amb was
available in town to handle it - but that aint the procedure)
