I have been meaning to write this up for 3 weeks now >From the June 2016 issue of International Fire Fighter (free mag)
There have been lots of changes in fire fighting foams in recent years - they have published several articles about this - most of the changes seem to be driven by the removal of fluorine due to environmental / health concerns ------------------------------ new gloves from SEIZ include laser pointer and temperature measuring device ------------------------------------ pg 12 - DuPont Nomex - "Nomex Nano" provides up to 40% reduction in thermal liner thickness (in turnout coats / firefighter coats) [which allows greater flexibility and less weight] - and 30% more moisture (sweat) absorption - and "the combination of Nomex Nano Flex and an FR (flame resistant) knit material in a firefighter hood results in a 25% improvement in thermal protection performance compared to FR knit material alone" ------------------------------------- Maybe the July 2016 issue of the magazine has part 2 of a report from a Spain FD - they analyzed the flow from a hose thru a window into a fire room - they basically found that the best procedure is to get very close to the bld and hit the ceiling just inside the window - that causes the least steam and best fire extinguishment Another article looked at Positive Pressure fans - I dont remember all the details - I think they said that the rating (cfm) giving by manufacturers were not very instructive - true air flow thru a fire bld varies greatly based on openings, flow paths, and fan placement ----------------------- pdf versions of the magazine should be easy to find online at www.iffmag.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "massfire" group.
