Arlington MA FD is fluctuating between 1 and 2 BLS ambulances on duty.
Backup from the private ambulances seems to be getting slower and
slower - with some response times hitting 20 minutes recently.

Arliington could buy 1 or 2 more quints. They could also buy a 3rd
ambulance. Then they could do some serious cross staffing between the
quints and the ambulances.

For example - right now - before they buy any more quints - they could
use Eng 2 to cross staff Rescue 2 (a BLS ambulance). If there were 2
ambulance calls in East Arlington - the first would get E1 and R1. The
2nd would get L1 and (R2 staffed by E2). When the ambs headed to the
hospital, that would leave Quint 3 in Arlington Heights, and E1 and L1
in Arlington Center. L1 could even move up to Sta 2 to cover. Then you
would have a staffed unit in each station.

I dont think that the remodeled Arlington Center Fire Station is large
enough to house 2 aerial pieces. But if it was, they could have 2
quints and 2 or 3 ambulances jammed in there. And Station 2 can
apparently hold 3 to 6 units - maybe 2 quints and 2 ambulances.

Bottom line - there is a good amount of room in the newly remodeled
stations. And there are always a minimum of 15 people on duty. 15
people could put 7 ambulances on the road. Interesting.
