On April 23, 2015, the Brown family filed a wrongful death lawsuit in state court against Wilson, Jackson, and the City of Ferguson, asking for damages in excess of $75,000 as well as attorney's fees.[245][246] On May 27, 2015, the lawsuit was moved from state court to federal court.[247] On July 14, 2015, U.S. District Judge E.
