Actually - they renovated both of the old elevators in our building. They have new control panels - and the emergency buttons are big; and right at the bottom of all of the other buttons. So the emergency buttons are getting hit accidentally on a regular basis. Cops were here once yesterday; and FD was just here this morning. Apparently the elevators dial 911 directly - but no one hangs around in the elevator to talk to the dispatcher.
The old elevators got new emergency buttons about 5 years ago. And they were being hit accidentally all the time. I think I even saw a seeing eye dog hit the button once. The simple fix was to install a little metal bar below the button. About 4 inches wide (side to side) by 1 inch deep (height) by 1 inch (depth). That solved the button. People would tap the bar instead of the emergency button. A very simple elegant solution. I dont know if they can easily fix the new emergency buttons in the elevators. They are big and round - and stick out from the panel - towards the passengers. Maybe they should place one if those Chinese finger traps over the buttons - stick your finger in there and it aint coming out. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "massfire" group.
