Note - many FDs have FFs switch to a 2nd channel during a MAYDAY -
leaving just the downed FF on the original channel - LAFD has their
radios set up such that when someone hits their emergency button, the
radio automatically switchs to Channel 6 - FDNY has their radios set
up to transmit a hot mike for 10 seconds after an emergency button is
hit - Boston area FDs seem to have their emergency buttons set up just
to send a signal on the selected channel (perhaps the IC radio is set
up to receive the alert) - Boston FD has their emergency buttons sound
an alert at the dispatchers console - I am not sure what Chicago and
Philadelphia do - i know that Chicago FD uses simplex for FG comms
(with maybe no base stations on the freqs)
