-------------------------------------------- info from 2018 Eastern Area Mobilization Plan Type 3 Exclusive use Helicopters The Forest Service (FS) Eastern Region has established a Type 3 Exclusive Use Helicopter Program for the 2018 operating period. The program provides regional guidelines for this shared resource between all Eastern Region National Forests. The two Exclusive Use Type 3 helicopters are contracted for initial attack, support of wildland fire suppression, and prescribe fire activities. The helicopters are hosted by the National Forests listed below. These units provide administrative management support for the two helicopter contracts. --------------------------- Mark Twain National Forest Availability period: Feb. 7th to May 31st. Helibase Location: Rolla - Vichy, Rolla National Airport, Vichy, MO (VIH) -------------------------- Shawnee National Forest Availability period: Feb. 27th to March 31st, will start availability period on the Shawnee Helibase Location: Williamson County Regional Airport, Marion, IL (MWA) o Moves to the Huron-Manistee National Forest April 1st to April 30th. Chippewa/Superior National Forest Availability period: 1 May to 30 Sept. ======================== If Massachusetts had needed a wildfire helo - maybe these giys would have responded - they are the closest helos that meet USFS guidelines - but more realistically - Massachusetts has agreements with Nat Guard and State Police for water drops probably - but beyond that - if State Forestry had cntacted NE Dispatch at Campton NH - they would either get a USFS "call when needed" helo or call Milwaukee / Eastern Geographical Area Coord Center - and Milwaukee surely would have sent the MO helo or the IL helo - surely LOL -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "massfire" group.
