It's doubtful that aspirin threw the clot. Evidence shows that aspirin
may help dissolve clots for individuals who are unable to take
traditional anticoagulants. Chances are that a small bump or maybe he
plopped on the cot is what threw the clot. They can go suddenly and
without warning. If they worked on him for an hour then they actually
did more than the national standard. Cardiac arrest treatment in the
ambulance is the SAME treatment you get in the hospital. Same drugs
same cpr same number of shocks intubation etc. they definitely did
everything they could and the EMS medical direction told them to
discontinue and call it in the field. What bothers me, is that they
already had him loaded.....soon as they got the extra hands they
needed they should have gone straight to the ED instead of staying
there.

Good comment. I was a FF here in Milwaukee. You are correct about the
aspirin. Our chest pain protocol was to give four baby aspirin right
from the start. We did this under the assumption of attacking any
potential clots. You are also correct about the quality of the care
being equal to the hospital. Same drugs, same level of care the docs
would give in a hospital setting. And most paramedics are in contact
with the hospital. But sadly in the end, there is absolutely ZERO
conciliation to the family if their loved one dies. Rodney will be
missed.

Most likely he was without oxygen to long. 15 yrs firefighter and
first responder. I've had to call a few in the field it's not easy.
