https://goo.gl/maps/hLtQgEDLViXH2XAHA - 2007 street view - are those mill fire trucks?
https://goo.gl/maps/gUtCmeTDQrqjPCEY8 - 2007 view of weed city fire station - across the street from the mill - they have received at least 1 newer red structural pumper since then Weed FD is staffed by a FT chief and a FT asst chief + interns + vols - per city fd webpage Weed Cal Fire Station has 2 full time engines in the summer - per 2022 unit strategic plan - Weed Sta is in Batt 3 and has BC2613 + E2677 + E2663 - both are Model 34 - total staffing is 1 BC + 2 Captains + 4 Engineers + 10 to 14 seasonal firefighters - this equates roughly to 2 engines on duty daily with 3 or 4 people on each engine - 9/7/2022 - this station is only half a mile from the mill somehow the fire tore thru the Jackson Heights neighborhood (which is all level ground) before the cal fire engine could even reach the scene - approx 3 minutes into the fire ========== from the radio tape - roughly - 1217 - cal fire weed station spots the fire and requests full alarm 1218 - 3 beeps - "weed structure fire at the mill" 1219 - tones for Cal Fire Weed Sta + Weed Fire + Mount Shasta Ambulance + Hammond Ranch Fire + Lake Shastina Fire + Mount Shasta Fire 1220 - Cal Fire Engine 2663 at scene - shed 17 is fully involved - need 3 alarms - fire has jumped Hwy 97 at Hoy Rd (which means it already went thru the jackson Heights neighborhood) 1222 - Weed City Fire has some radio traffic - request full wildland dispatch (which brings the aircraft I presume) various messages 1227 - send every engine you have various messages 1237 - Batt 2613 requests 23 strikke teams of engines (5 engines per strike team) + 20 dozers and 25 water tenders 1240 - some says "will take the lats / LATs" - I assume that is the Large Air Tankers but might be longs and lats - need top check further - this is 23 minutes into the fire Distances to fire stations on the first alarm - in road miles and travel times per Google Maps - 9 miles and 18 minutes to Lake Shastina VFD - 9 miles and 13 minutes to Hammond Ranch VFD - 11 miles and 14 minutes to Mt Shasta City Sta 1 - 5 miles and 9 minutes to Mt Shasta FPD Sta 2 (which might not exist) - only the Mt Shasta City Sta 1 probably had any staff in the station at the time of the initial call ===================== Bottom Lines - the fire spread very very fast somehow - there was maybe 9 firefighters in stations within a half mile of the mill - maybe the mill has their own fire brigade and fire trucks - but there is no mention of them on the radio tapes Also - for some strange reason all the radio traffic was on the dispatch channel - they should also have 154,34 and 154,25R + Cal Fire Command 1 + Cal Fire Command 2 + Cal Fire Command 10 available as Command channels - plus maybe 154.04 - ???? The only fire aircraft I know of in Siskiyou County are USFS aircraft - 2 type 2 or 3 helos + 1 type 1 big helitanker + 1 air attack / lead plane - I assume they sent at least a lead plane and a type 1 helitanker and helo 502 on the full wildland dispatch - maybe we can find that on a radio tape still checking ! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "massfire" group.
