Communication Systems ▪ The communications systems throughout the
state are influenced by a number of factors. ▪ One of the largest
factors is budgetary funding mechanisms. ▪ In many cases fire
departments are built upon land mobile radio systems that are legacy
in nature. ▪ Limited data painted a very small part of the picture
that makes up public safety communications.

Communication Systems ▪ Departments utilize a mix of VHF, UHF and
700/800 MHZ public safety systems for communications. ▪ Several
departments have transitioned to the Connecticut Land Mobile Radio
Network (CLMRN) system. ▪ Major factors identified to upgrading any
radio system were the cost associated with equipment, infrastructural
improvements and the vendor’s cost.
