iirc the usfs is a much larger fire agency than the DOI usfs - 1000 engines (TY3 and TY6) and 20 hand crews and 100 helos - united states forest service under the Department of Agriculture blm - 400 engines (TY4 and 6) and 20 helos and 10 hand crews - Bureau of Land Managenent under Dept of Interior (DOI) nps - 200 engines (TY3 and 6) and 20 ems/fire helos and 2 hand crews - Natl Park Service under DOI fws - 400 slip on engines and 10 ty 3 engines and 2 helos - US Fish and Wildlife Service under DOI bia - maybe 200 engines (TY3 and 6) and 5 helos and 10 hand crews - Bureau of Indian Affairs under DOI - possibly most of these units are operated by the local tribes but funded by DC these are all very rough numbers meant to show the relative size of the agencies TY 3 engine = 125 gpm and 500 gallon tank TY 6 engine = 100 gpm pump and 250 gallon tank of water TY 4 engine = 50 gpm pump and 750 gallon water tank usfs cover mountains and forests blm cover rangelands usfws covers swamps bia and nps cover a mixture of forests and rangelands most of the large airtankers are controlled out of boise by NIFC - they are shared among all federal wildfire agencies - some smaller airtankers are operated by BLM in Nevada and elsewhere state forestry agencies also operate a multitude of helos and some smaller air tankers - they are NOT a part of this new federal fire agency -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "massfire" group.
