EP 46: What They Don't Tell You About Trailing a Soviet Sub for 38 Days

https://youtu.be/rkjJk4hyCr0?si=IxHoztUPuXECMuBz

40:00 on tape - on the attack subs, they had to surface every 6 to 8
hours to make sure they did not miss any radio messages

on the boomers they trailed a wire that kept them in constant comms

boomers usually traveled approx 300 feet down

this guy gives lots of info about going to annapolis and nuke
engineering school and daily life on the subs

west coast - continental shelf is right next to coast

east coast - continental shelf can be 100 miles off shore

new nuke subs in usa can run 33 years without being refueld but they
got ?30 billion to build

if you watch maybe the first 20 minutes you get the basic idea

not sure what he talks about in the 2nd half of the video
