I just tested gcin 1.3.7.1 on my Slackware 12.0, and everything looks fine
except that I do not know how to input under gcin.

Here is what I did:

. compile and install gcin 1.3.7.1 (./configure; make; make install)
. in a tcsh shell, run the following commands:
    setenv LC_CTYPE zh_TW.BIG5
    setenv XMODIFIERS "@im=gcin"
    gcin &
    mrxvt -km big5
. after I typed Ctrl_Space in the new mrxvt window, I see the charming input
bar. :-)
