Yes, for a shadow under letter. I think this was a feature taken from Eterm / Fvwm / some other fancy program. It draws the text twice, with a little offset giving the appearance of a shadow. It gives a nice appearance in light backgrounds. For instance mrxvt -fg '#000000' -bg '#afafaf' -xft -ts '#808080' If you want to "see" the text shadows clearly, try -ts #ff0000 GI -- Sea captains don't like crew cuts.
