On behalf of the family of Einar Fredriksson, IOS Press, and Sage, it is with
heavy hearts that we inform you that Dr. Einar Fredriksson passed away
unexpectedly on April 30, 2025, at the age of 82.

Einar started his publishing career at North-Holland Publishing Company and
subsequently Elsevier, where he worked with great dedication for 17 years. He
later founded and ran the highly regarded scientific, technical, medical (STM)
publishing house IOS Press for more than 35 years until he came to an agreement
with Sage to incorporate IOS Press into their operations.

Einar studied mathematical logic among others in Poland where he later became
an honorary member of the Polish Mathematical Society. Over the years, Einar
was also involved in Polish mathematical publishing. His deepest intellectual
interests focused on automated approaches to mathematical theorem proofs. His
interest in the various scientific disciplines, collaboration with academics,
and pursuit of innovative forms of publication have made him an important and
highly respected colleague in the publishing field.

More recently, his interest in AI brought him in contact with the FAIR data
movement. Einar had followed FAIR from its inception, and in recent years, he
focused specifically on the development of practical methods for the creation
of machine-actionable data across disciplines.

While visiting his home in Italy, Einar contracted a severe bacterial infection
that he was unable to overcome. He is survived by his wife Zosia, son Hjalmar &
Irina Ingmar, daughter Gabriella, and grandson Graham.

The memorial service is open to everyone and will be held on May 16 at
15:00 at the Nieuwe Oosterbegraafplaats located at Kruislaan 126, 1097 GA
Amsterdam. Please note that there will be road construction on the Amsterdam
highway on this day, and it is recommended that visitors travel by public
transport. You can also watch the ceremony online (ID: 152973 |
