mathopd error messages

Greetings.

I've installed mathopd and the php wrapper located on the website without any visible errors. when i go to run mathopd using the config file i hacked up, it doesn't run, nor does it spam any error messages.

i know this question is rather ambigious, but does anyone have any hints on installing? did i miss something?

i'm installing on a debain linux box. plenty of ram and cpu power.
