I'm pretty sure this is fixed in svn -- I made some docstring edits to fix this bug a while back. I've tried to emphasize that the docs are a very fast moving target, slated for release end of summer, so should be considered bleeding-edge only. In other words, if you expect them to build, you should be ready to use mpl svn and/or svn from any of the packages they depend on (sphinx, pygments, ....)
