It's not clear to me why this is -- I have 1.0.1 as the active version on pypi, which is reflected on http://pypi.python.org/pypi/matplotlib and the download URL is listed as https://sourceforge.net/projects/matplotlib/files/matplotlib/matplotlib-1.0.1/ 0.91.1 is flagged as hidden.
