Just hardcoding the path made the doc compilation failing to provide the images for examples using get_sample_data() because it refers to a directory still not populated (it will be at install time, not build time). So i brought it up to https://github.com/matplotlib/matplotlib/issues/1478 We can keep discussing it there.
