Well I can help with the smallest of your problems: MPL uses days past 1/1/1 0:0:0 and 01-JAN-0001 00:00:00 in JD = 1721425.5
so: JD = MPL_DAY + 1721425.5 but - there is no "integrated" way to do this automatically inside the plotting system.
