Oh, I see. That may be possible, but I think it needs some testing before we try it. There must be a reason that sansmath is not distributed with tetex, maybe because of all the conditions concerning greek symbols listed in the sty file. I don't have as much time to work on mpl these days, and usetex has fortunately not required much attention lately. I'm therefore hesitant to try to add new features, especially those that latex is not really designed to support.
