I just started playing with the CocoaAgg backend in mpl 0.90.1 w/pyobjc 1.4 and matplotlib uses the 'backend' line in the rc file just fine. However, it doesn't seem to work well in interactive mode using ipython 0.8.1 (control is not returned to the shell after plotting).
