Hi! Using the STIX fonts, the baseline of mathtext glyphs is corrupt using screen backands like GTK or TK. The problem does not appear using the ps or pdf backend. Attached is png and eps file of a semilogy plot with a mathtext xlabel. The ytick labes and the xlabel are skrewed in the png.
