1. Moving to matplotlib-0.91.2 solved the problem with PDF generation
on log axes.
2. Installing matplotlib-0.91.2 on Linux required installing these
packages first:
* freetype-devel
* libpng-devel
(Those packages were NOT installed automatically by easy_install)
