I have worked on it, but not finished it. I put the code in svn under examples http://matplotlib.sourceforge.net/examples/widgets/menu.html but it would be migrated to matplotlib.widgets once it is completed. If you or someone else wants to run with it, that would be great. It would be handy to have this functionality.
