I haven't been able to replicate this bug. With all matplotlib versions I tried (including 0.99.0, 0.99.1., 0.99.1.1, 0.99.1.2, 1.0.0, and the current source code in svn), this example works correctly with the Mac OS X backend. Garry, what is the exact code that you are using?
