This is a good point. I've had similar observations but haven't been able to voice this particular facet, and certainly not so succinctly. One thought I had, assuming John Hunter et al. would be open to it, is basically having a "Who uses matplotlib?" section on the website. Good for one-off cases like my question two days ago, and also good for general project evangelism.
