Dear Thomas, I replaced figureoptions.py in 1.3.1 with the corresponding file in your commit <https://github.com/rhoef/matplotlib/blob/2bffa69cf7dc6b571fc5fdea27dba560d55a37de/lib/matplotlib/backends/qt4_editor/figureoptions.py> , and can confirm that it has resolved the issue.
