Hi Michka, I haven't practiced PyQt for some time, but I think I remember there is a common practice of using a "0 ms" timer to launch a function after the Gui setup.
I've modified your gist here : https://gist.github.com/pierre-haessig/9909708 (for some reason the Github fork button printed "The change you wanted was rejected.")
