The LP-based solver for the AC OPF, which has be deprecated, uses successive
linear programming. That is, it linearizes the problem, solves an LP,
linearizes again, etc. The details can be found on pages 8-10 of the
MATPOWER 2.0 user's manual (included in the download for that version).
