MATPOWER is a free, open-source software package for power system analysis, 
aimed primarily at solving power flow and optimal power flow problems.

Highlights of version 5.1 include:

 - New BSD license <http://www.pserc.cornell.edu/matpower/LICENSE.txt>.
 - New European case files, ranging from 89 up to 9421 buses. (thanks to Cédric 
Josz).
 - New online function reference 
<http://www.pserc.cornell.edu//matpower/docs/ref/>.
 - Support for PARDISO <http://www.pardiso-project.org/> linear solver, and 
IPOPT-PARDISO with dramatic performance improvements for very large-scale AC 
OPFs.
 - New and updated support for 3rd party solvers (CLP, Gurobi, Ipopt, Knitro, 
MOSEK, OPTI Toolbox, Opt Tbx.).
 - Network reduction toolbox (thanks to Yujia Zhu and Daniel Tylavsky).
 - Bug fixes.
