Hi Jubeyer, I think that’s the extent of the documentation available for MIPS. The lines you mention are related to the step length controlled version of the algorithm, referred to as SCIPM in the paper and described in Fig. 5. The purpose is simply to shorten the step length when quadratic approximation used by the Newton step is found be inaccurate.
