Hi Andreas,
I would really recommend that you ask you distributor, or axis, if you
can test the camera for a few days before you buy it. Up to now I found
problems on how to use the IP-cameras in production, if you don't want
to use them in the ways the manufacturer intended it. And this even
without the idea to use it with matterhorn. You should at first try the
camera with VLC or something similar and make sure that the results are
what you expect as the quality for your recordings.
I took quite some time to find out the URL settings for the Q1755. Maybe
this will be helpful for you if you want to test:
rtsp://root:<password>@<my-url>:554/axis-media/media.amp?videocodec=h264&resolution=1920x1080&compression=30&mirror=0&textposition=top&textbackgroundcolor=black&textcolor=white&text=0&clock=0&date=0&fps=0&audio=0&keyframe_interval=32&videobitrate=0&maxframesize=0&rotation=180
rtsp://root:<password>@<my-url>:554/axis-media/media.amp?videocodec=h264&resolution=1280x720&compression=10&mirror=0&fps=0&audio=1&keyframe_interval=32&videobitrate=0&maxframesize=0&rotation=180
The P1346 looks very promissing and is a lot cheaper than the Q1755 and
I did not see any real differences except that the Q1755 has an 10x
optical zoom.
If you only want ho have a single stream HD-video you must not even use
the matterhorn capture agent. You can write a small script that uses VLC
or an other tool that can record RTP/RTSP streams and copies the file to
the matterhorn inbox ($FELIX_HOME/inbox). Afterwards you can add the
neccessary metadata to the file on the admin upload page and the file
will be processed.
If you make your script smart enough to add the metadata and to zip the
files the mediapackages in the inbox could even be processed
automatically without the manual ingest step.

Dear Rüdiger,
thanks for your request.
I thought about a AXIS P1346 Kamera
(http://www.axis.com/de/products/cam_p1346/index.htm)
which has an 3MP sensor and audio-input.
Greetings
Andreas
Hi Andreas,
recording IP-cameras was discussed previously already.
A solution to this would be to use some gstreamer modules that handle
rtp-connections. I don't know how easy this will be with the recent
changes in the capture agents architecture for 1.1. With 1.0 it is not
possible.
In general I see many problems when it come to record live streams from
IP-cameras (especially muxed streams), as you can encounter unexpected
delays, if you don't have ideal conditions. We have an Axis Q1755 and I
made some test to record it from a distant server (camera in a classroom
on the campus and the server in the server farm).
In a two hour recording with VLC I always encountered massive delays
between audio and video (up to 5 minutes) I can notive the network lags
in the recordings.
The Q1755 has an build in SD-Card and the ability to push the recording
to an FTP-Server. Unfortunately in both cases the camera does not store
the audio.
What camera do you intend to use?

Rüdiger
