Hi Lovemore,
Up until recently our capture agent page had been missing the
qualification that alternative devices listed under "custom capture
devices" have not been thoroughly tested and are not part of the
official capture spec
(http://opencast.jira.com/wiki/display/MH/Reference+Hardware+%28Trunk%29).
Some of those listed may work flawlessly whereas others may not. There
are quite a few alternate capture agents used on other campuses that
seemed to have worked quite well. As you've encountered, it may demand
a lot of testing to determine whether a device is stable.
I hope we can find a fix soon and release it as part of a 1.1
maintenance release, but more importantly it's critical that we identify
a process to officially add devices to the recommended spec. To
introduce a new device and continue with ongoing support for that
device, we need to incorporate it as part of our QA release cycle and
identify ongoing resources to test/fix potential issues. In some sense
you've already started down this path, but the absence of this process
leads to unclear expectations. Thus far the folks at usask have been
heroic in their support and the main source for fixes and QA, but we
need to expand this expertise.
In the interim, are you having any problems capturing with vga only?

Are you sure this is the correct JIRA? Looks like noise reduction
instead,
