Sorry for the late answer. 3rd party tools from trunk in Ubuntu 10.04.3 i386 should compile just fine. There must be something that you already have on the system from before, i.e. you are probably not compiling on a newly installed and updated system. To find out, what's going on (especially in the pre-requisite phase), please provide the whole log(s) from the compilation (located on /tmp) as an attachment. If you can do it, you can compile 3rd party tools on a virtual machine with a fresh Ubuntu 10.04.3 i386 installation and then just copy the whole /usr/local directory to the destination machine. Just remember that this would overwrite some of your previously installed versions of tools, if you have some.
