We have some updates on the unconference:

*We have sponsors! *
A huge thank you to the generous sponsors who stepped forward to support the conference by covering lunch, refreshment breaks, an extra meeting room, and after-meeting drinks! The sponsors are:
- The Longsight Group (http://longsight.com)
- Entwine (http://entwinemedia.com)
- Keomei (http://koemei.com)
- Teltek (http://teltek.es)

If your company is interested in supporting the unconference, please contact me at [email protected].

*Session Planning*
While much of the agenda will be built by YOU, the participants, in unconference style, we have established some core sessions that you can count on. You can find information about the planned sessions, and vote for or suggest new sessions in the "Suggested Sessions" area at http://opencast.jira.com/wiki/display/MH/Suggested+Topics.

*Meet Ups*
We're still working out details, but we will reserve a local spot for us to gather for dinner and drinks on both Monday and Tuesday nights. Dinner will be on your own, but we have a few sponsors keen on buying drinks, so plan on joining us!

*Pre-Registration*
Official registration will open in January, but we'd like to have a fairly accurate headcount in order to establish a registration fee that covers the unsponsored parts of the conference (our goal is breakeven). If you are planning to attend (or strongly considering it), please add your name to the list at http://opencast.jira.com/wiki/display/MH/Participant+Pre-Registration.

Looking forward to seeing many of you in Oxford!

Michelle

*What's an unconference?*
"An unconference is a conference where the content of the sessions is
driven and created by the participants, generally day-by-day during the
course of the event, rather than by a single organizer, or small group of
organizers, in advance." -Wikipedia

As an unconference, the sessions and focus will be driven by the needs,
interest and skills of those who attend. There will be both planned and
spontaneous opportunities to collaborate and learn from each other.
What will the focus be?

We've come up with 5 general categories to help focus the topics, and
expect each of these to be fairly well represented:

- Implementing: installation, configuration, integration, extending, users
helping users, solving problems
- Contributing: adopters interested in contributing to Matterhorn,
development processes, tools, etc
- Project Planning: Quality assurance and release processes, roadmap, new
features
- Community Organizing: governance, funding, community building,
communications, public relations
- Applying: Application of Matterhorn for teaching& learning, research

Within these categories, we expect to have lightning talks, roundtable
discussions, hands on workshops, and presentations.

A list of suggested topics is available here:
http://opencast.jira.com/wiki/display/MH/Suggested+Topics. Please feel free
to add your own suggestions if there's something you want to learn or
discuss with others!

*Who should attend?*
We're expecting all board members to attend and most of the active
committers on the project (see http://opencast.org/leadership for a list).
We're hoping that many others will join us, including those who are working
toward implementing Matterhorn on their campus, commercial vendors, those
who want to take a more active role in the project development and
community planning, and those who have great ideas for where Matterhorn
could go next.

There will be a small registration fee to cover the costs of the
facilities (around $40 USD).

*How do I register?*
At this time we are requesting all interested participants to pre-register
in the wiki at
http://opencast.jira.com/wiki/display/MH/Participant+Pre-Registration by
December 23rd so that we can make adequate plans. A more formal
registration process will be provided in January where you can submit your
registration fee.

*Where is it and how do I get there?*
The meeting will be held at Oxford University in Oxford UK. More details
can be found here:
http://opencast.jira.com/wiki/display/MH/Venue%2C+Hotel+and+Travel.

*How can my company support the unconference?*
We are looking for commercial sponsors to cover the cost of lunches and
refreshments during the 2 day meeting. If you are interested in sponsoring
part of the conference, please contact Ruben Perez at [email protected]
or Michelle Ziegmann at [email protected].
