From this description it sounds like both the core and CA are damaged: It should be able to schedule even if the capture doesn't fire. Can you please attach your config.properties and org.opencastproject.capture.impl.ConfigurationManager.properties files from both your core and CA? Don't forget to blank out any passwords!
