Hi Andreas,

I will please you and answer the questions short, but I should answer them
the long way too, because the short ones are not good enough.

1. can Galicaster be installed in parallel to MH Capture Agent?
*Short: *Yes, but not really in parallel.
*Long:* You can install both agents in the same machine, but afterwards you
have to chose one, both agents *can't* access the same devices at the same
time.
What we are really doing is installing MH workers and Galicaster in the
same machine.

2. is Galicaster a valid alternative to the MH Capture Agent, as regards
stability and load?
*Short*: Yes it is.
*Long*: Galicaster can be an alternative or a complement, both agents can
connect to the same MH core.
We like to think Galicaster as a advanced capture agent. It registers as a
capture agent and communicates with the core almost as a MH capture agent,
with the improvements that brings an interface
In our production deployment in Vigo we only have Galicasters, just 4 rooms
right now, recording 10 different courses. It will be 12 at the end of the
term. We already have 200 hours of recordings.

3. Will the MH Capture Agent have a similar User-Interface as Galicaster
offers now?
*Short*: I can't answer this question.

4. will Galicaster also run on the current recommended hardware for MH, if
I just lower the encoding settings?
*Short*: Galicaster *does run* in the same hardware than MH does.
*Long*: We are officially supporting Epiphan VGA2USB series, Hauppauge PVR
series and Logitech c910 and c920 with advanced features like:
- allowing VGA to disconnect (before and during a recording) and to change
resolution.
- pausing recordings
- multiple audio tracks
We also support Blackmagic cards but we haven't work as much as the others
cards.
Bluecherry cards are also compatible with Galicaster (v4l2 interface),
those without HW encoding.

Right now we are working with new cards and devices, to adapt Galicaster to
HD quality and DV cameras and to have more HW encoding options, appart from
the Hauppauges.

About the encoding settings, you have the same encoding potential as a MH
capture agent, just a bit less CPU to work with. But this it isn't a
problem, as I said before, we are using the free load to run a MH worker
(much worse)

I hope this brings some light on your doubts, but in case not, I would like
to answer any follow-up or new questions.
