I think small devices have different issues than the iPad . Maybe is nonsense try to display a little slide when there isn't enough space to read anything
About option 2 for iPad I am thinking on the same design we have for the full Paella, but changing the video in the presentation channel for an image that is changing each slide change. It's a bad solution, because you lose many of the advantages of Matterhorn, but we don't see any other option Regards Carlos De: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] En nombre de Schulte Olaf A. Leaving a choice to consumers seems like a good approach though. What would option no. 2 look like? Not sure what the slideshow would look like and where it stands with respect to the presenter video. Regards Olaf A. The problem with the iPad is that iOS (at least as far as I know) don't support two videos to be played simultaneously. So, until that is solved there are two options -Have a fixed setup (or two) like in Polimedia (that's the reason it's working) and play it monostream for iPads. -Play the presenter video smoothly and make a king of slideshow for the presentation channel -People from Apple solve that issue (I said two options? ) For us the first one is much more easy, at the cost of encoding time and storage space, but maybe the second one would be nicer. I am thinking on having three possible views for mobile devices: presentation only, presenter only and presenter with thumbnails overlaid What do you think? Some comments: http://engage.campusdomar.es/paellaengage/ui/index.html is not available here at the moment. Local issue? http://polimedia.upv.es/visor/MH/?id=56a3322c-8300-2c46-8831-c704c589f764 - I like the different "views" and the HD (?) video is (almost) good enough to identify the blackboard writing. Also, the slide preview and its usage for navigation work for me. However, the video doesn't work on my iPad - it only shows the preview, and pressing the "play" symbol gives me a "page not found" message. This is surprising because other media from the Polimedia repository are searchable and play fine on the iPad. Any idea as to the cause of this? Regards Olaf A. The player, in both versions, work with a MH Core (with lighttpd and MP4 files). In fact, the demo site of campusdomar work with the full paella player, not just with the mini one. Due to University policies we have much of our recordings hidden, so we prepared the demo with just that video. We are polishing the code and the documentation, and I guess that should be clear, and also a quick setup guide Thanks! What kind of server do you run it from? I mean the Full-Paella. Is it from a pseudostreaming server? Or from MH core? With that development, and some help from the guys of Teltek we have developed a complete HTML5 synchronized video player that is compatible with Matterhorn. We call it: "Paella Engage Player". The Paella player comes in two flavors, mini and full. When in mini mode, Paella player is fully compatible with all the Opencast Matterhorn Engage Player plugins, while in maxi mode it has a separate set of plugins, that are almost the same as in Matterhorn 1.3 You can check how it works at these links: * Mini-Paella < http://engage.campusdomar.es/paellaengage/ui/index.html > * Full-Paella < http://polimedia.upv.es/visor/?id=56a3322c-8300-2c46-8831-c704c589f764 > Paella player will be released under ECL license 2.0 very soon. I have proposed a session for next Matterhorn Unconference at Harvard (http://unconference.opencast.org/sessions/paella-html5-matterhorn-engage-player ), so if you are interested I can tell more details there. Anyway we have setup a rough website at http://paellaengage.upv.es to give a quick view of Paella Engage Player. Finally, a short list of the Paella Engage characteristics Main characteristics * Multi stream video player * Completely based in HTML5 and Javascript * Can play audio from any of the two videos, mute any of them or mix both * Resize position/size of video windows while playing * Play/Pause/30 seconds back controls * Jump anywhere in the video keeping both tracks in sync * Can handle progressive download and pseudostreaming servers * Easily change the relative position of presenter and presentation windows * Native Fullscreen version * "Publish to" buttons for Facebook and Twitter * Easy skinning * Easy install. Just get the code, point to your server and run (if you have mp4/ogg videos available) * Compatible with Opencast Matterhorn Carlos Turró Hear of Network & Media Services Universidad Politécnica de Valencia _______________________________________________ Matterhorn-users mailing list [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> http://lists.opencastproject.org/mailman/listinfo/matterhorn-users
