The package ist not called v4l-info but v4l-conf. You might have been
able to see this, if you tried to execute v4l-info.
So simply type
sudo apt-get install v4l-conf

Hello,
Yes its only v4l-info. I can install every other software.
Hi Yemi,
Is it only v4l-info that you can't install? In other words are you
able to "apt-get install" other packages? Could it be that your Ubuntu
Virtual Machine is not able to reach the repository hosting the
"v4l-info" package?

I am trying to make matterhorn work with my webcam following the page
http://opencast.jira.com/wiki/display/MHDOC/Custom+Capture+Devices+v1.3
But when I try to run sudo apt-get install v4l-info
it returns with an error
E: Unable to locate package v4l-info
also I have no folders with /dev/video*
Am using a dell laptop for the capture agent running ubuntu 10.10 on
Oracle virtual box.
