Hello everyone, I thought I'd take a moment and introduce myself and
my company, I'm Tristan Crane from Entropy Wave Inc. I've talked to
some of you in the past, and we may have met at the Boston
Unconference this summer.

A bit about our company - we've been around for about 4 years now, my
co-founder, David Schleef is a longtime Gstreamer developer and video
codec engineer - his focus has been on open source video codecs and he
was one of the lead engineers on the Dirac codec developed by the BBC.
We founded Entropy Wave to support open source video and audio codecs
in hardware products, specifically in the area of live streaming and
high quality video capture. Our products support open codecs while
simultaneously working with standard proprietary codecs including
H.264, MPEG-4, and Flash. We're based in San Francisco, and are recent
graduates of Mozilla's WebFWD mentorship program for companies focused
on open source development in their products and apps.

We're very excited to have integrated with Matterhorn and look
forward to contributing back to the community in any way that we can.
We've been talking with Entwine Media to discuss this, and have
benefited from extremely useful feedback from them on how to improve
our products to better serve the needs of Universities and the
Matterhorn community.

Our products which might be of the most interest to the Matterhorn
community are the C1000 Capture Agent line, we offer both single video
+ audio and dual video input + audio in this device and currently have
both 1U rackmount units as well as audio-rack size enclosures with
extremely efficient (ie, nearly silent!) fans which are ideal for
in-classroom or podium installation.

Feel free to check out our website (www.entropywave.com) for specific
product specs, or contact me for a brochure and pricing information.
Our products support both standard and High Def input, HDMI (We
recommend a particular scaler for VGA to HDMI conversion), video
formats include H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Baseline/Main Profiles, Theora,
Dirac, and VP8, with an output size of up to 1080p/30.

I know that pricing is an enormous concern, our goal is to provide
competitive and fair pricing on our products, while still allowing for
us to continue to develop features, improve our product, and provide
support to customers. Our single input SD boxes start at around
$2,500, and the dual input HD boxes run up to around $6,995.00
depending on options selected. Our basic support package includes
quarterly firmware updates for the life of the product, bugzilla
access to report non-critical bugs, and quick support for critical
software issues.

We are currently running tests of these products in several
Universities with their Matterhorn system installs, please feel free
to approach me at any time with questions (or complaints!) about what
we do. Our goal is to provide reliable, solid capture agents which
will be a good investment for Universities and will allow our
customers to have a worry-free lecture capture system, beginning with
your capture device.

Thank you for your patience with this lengthy email. Looking forward
to participating further in the Matterhorn community with all of you.

Tristan Crane
