For anyone looking at this ticket with confusion, this issue has morphed from a
problem where the non-heap memory usage exceeded the maximum configured in the
start script. It's now about text extraction hanging.
When running tesseract on .tif images from the command line, do you get a
result?
$ tesseract image.tif output
(note that the tesseract binary built for some platforms is sensitive to the
extension, it must be ".tif" with one 'f')
