Adam Hochman commented on MH-7335:
----------------------------------

Tobias, I'm not clear what the expectations are for clean up at the end of a
workflow operation or when a workflow fails. Additionally I'm a bit confused
about the difference between /files/collection and /workspace/collection and
the overall file structure.

Regarding clean up...
Clean up appears not be working in distributed environments with no shared
storage or shared storage. Since this will cause a major storage issue in a
short period of time. Clean up is working in a stand alone environment.

Regarding file vs. workspace....
My understanding is that instances with shared storage everything is hard
linked to the file repo. If a workspace needs a new file it checks to see
whether its in the file repo first and hardlinks if there is shared storage,
and in the circumstance where direct storage does not exist, it copies it to
the local working file repo and workspace. In this case, services in need of a
file will check their local working file repo for a cached version prior to
downloading the file from elsewhere. right?

What I find confusing is when I go to the distributed QA environment with
shared storage, I find a copy of collection files in both files and workspace
which are then hardlinked from other server's workspaces and file repos. Why
aren't their hardlinks between the media in files and workspace under
collections? It appears that is the case for the mediapackage.

Also what is the *_8080 directory under workspace. I had thought it was for
direct access to files for technical details, but it only contains .xml. Maybe
it would be easier to discuss this over skype...
