Hi all,

Leaving aside the question of whether this is really an issue or not,
I'm not sure I follow the logic about simply removing features from the
release if there are issues with them, especially core features like
distributed deployment which are decisions made early on by deploying
sites.

If there's a major feature and it's not working but you still want a
release, then it should be called a development snapshot or a preview or
something. I would say most of the software world would understand that
a release means that everything that worked in the previous version
continues to work unless there's a very specific plan to deprecate and
remove features over several versions, discussed in advance with sites
running the software, and with migration plans to alternate solutions.

Indeterminacy about features would seem to signal to potential adopters
that all the releases so far are just development releases and
Matterhorn is not production-ready, which I'm assuming is not the
message we want to convey.

Cheers
Stephen

Hi all,

I'm intending to create a new release candidate for 1.2 either this
afternoon or tomorrow morning. We have one outstanding release
blocker
which is currently assigned to no one:

http://opencast.jira.com/browse/MH-8022
Encoding failure with multiple workers / Unnecessary File Downloads

I'm inclined to ignore it because it's a bit unclear as to whether it
is still an issue, and then try and reverify it in 1.2.

** As per discussions, if no one comes forward to fix the issue and it
persists throughout release candidates the feature will be removed
from
the release. In this case the feature is distributed deployment.
Please look at this issue if it comes up after RC 7! **

I'll update at tomorrow mornings meeting,

Chris
