Dear all,

I am happy to announce that NCast (ncast.com/) and Entwine (entwinemedia.com)
are working together to develop what we call an "episode service" for
Matterhorn.

As most of you are aware, Matterhorn stores series in the series service,
scheduling data in the scheduler service and media packages in the... wait!
Media packages are not stored anywhere! This is exactly the reason why it is
currently difficult to implement functionality that is based on the processed
media package, such as retract a media package, publish to an additional
distribution channel or reprocess with updated encoding profiles.

With the episode service, the foundations for many of these scenarios are being
created. It will store the media package as part of the ingest workflow and
offer search capabilities similar to what the workflow ui currently offers.
Users will then be able to run arbitrary workflows on any number of selected
media packages. Common examples of such a workflow will be retract or
depublish, but more complex scenarios like rebuilding of the search index after
a system upgrade may be possible.

Development of this service and related work items can be tracked under MH-8084.
