I did this to manually solve the problem (following this post:
http://trac.macports.org/wiki/howto/InstallingOlderPort):
svn co -r 86150
http://svn.macports.org/repository/macports/trunk/dports/multimedia/ffmpeg /tmp/
cd /tmp/ffmpeg
sudo port install
I have no idea why we need to manually get the latest version, but at least
this way it works.
