Hi Chris,

I build a service that accepts chunked uploads (not in trunk by now). However the client side is still missing. You sure remember I build a proof-of-concept of a chunk upload client a longer time ago. The implementation was a Java Applet which we didn't go on with because of problems on Apple systems. Nowadays the HTML5 File and Blob API [1] are sayed to be in place, so an HTML5/JS chunk uploader could be build (without the need of applets or browser plugins like google gears). One notice: I'm not saying 'HTML5 is here and we can now happily build such a thing!'. The speced API has everything we need to do that. But a little research on the topic some time ago gave me the impression that it was still a question to what extend browsers implemented the spec (eg. implemented the File API but not the Blob part). Nevertheless, I think we should take on the endeavor of implementing an HTML5 chunk uploader because transfering big files will become more and more important for web applications in the near future which should force browsers to establish stable support for the File API.

Cheers,
Benjamin

PS: I can commit the upload module mid next week.

Ben,

Last I had heard you were working on a large file upload applet or something
similar. Did you ever nail this?

Chris
