I don't know if it is a design goal but it is as far as I know necessary by the 
current design. It is possible (although not recommended currently) to have 
different engage servers (for load balancing i.e.) and the recordings then may 
get spread randomly on these different servers, that's why the complete path to 
the filename is stored in the database and in the search indexes. 

Refactoring may be possible but this will have very huge impact on the whole 
system architecture.
