As a feature, it can lead to somewhat unwanted effects such as
unintentionally creating a series with a similar name to an existing
series, but lacking metadata or permission settings. And as the default
permission settings are for public view, it could lead administrators to
inadvertently make public recordings which should not be.

If this feature remains, the UI definitely needs to either require a
more explicit action (e.g. an "Add" button/icon next to the Series field
to create a new one), or at the least make it clearly visible to the
user that a new series has been created as a side-effect of scheduling
the recording.

The intent was to allow admins to schedule a new set of recordings
(recurring event) or upload without having to first go thru the separate
(and disconnected) process of creating a series. It's a convenience. I
don't have time now to dig up the history of this feature, and to
determine how much (or little) of a pain point it will be if this is no
longer functional, but it definitely leads to an awkward user experience
if one starts to schedule or upload and then has to stop and got out and
create the series. I'm pretty sure the automatic creation has been buggy
in the past and has been working on and off in different releases...if
there's a pressing reason to remove it again it would be unfortunate but
not the end of the world.

implemented that on Judys "will".
