Gstreamer has a PPA that you could use to update gstreamer. This is not
uncommonly used on dev machines (generally not use on production, but it would
be worth seeing if the issue does go away with a newer gstreamer, since a
gstreamer bug could cause it).

I'm going to assign the issue to waldemar, it's his code so he might have some
thoughts on how best to triage the issue.
(I'm afraid we have done minimal testing of this feature at usask, we were
working on a related feature while this was in development)
